At this very moment, 12,000 youth are convened in Washington, DC for one reason: our future.
The energy was undeniable at the DC Convention center. The conference was compromised of speeches, panels and workshops by such figures as Van Jones, James Cromwell, Nancy Pelosi, the League’s own Biko Baker, Heather Box, Khari Mosley and more. The events covered such varied topics as grassroots outreach, fundraising, transportation issues and nuclear power. Students from all over the country and the world thrived on the opportunity to learn, meet fellow activists and embrace the positive message of Powershift.
Today, many of the participants in the conference engaged in the largest energy lobbying day in US history by visiting the offices of senators and congressmen demanding the following:
- Investment in A Green Economy
- Powering Our Future With Clean Energy, Rather Than Dirty Fuels
- Cuts to Carbon Immediately and Dramatically
- Leading the World to a Clean and Equitable Energy Future
This weekend, over 12,000 youth declared their place at the political table, standing up and shouting from the rooftops that they would take no less than their demands. The passion they harbor in their hearts is overwhelmingly inspirational and gives a sense of hope for the future in an era of hopelessness.
