Education in America is not truly focused on education, but on training. This focus creates rebellion by it's very nature. Instead of identifying the interests/needs of students many schools/teachers use a cookie-cutter, one-size fits all approach. Also, so much of what is taught is irrelevant in our technological society.

Students need wholistic education which focuses on human development, cognitive development as well as the 3 R's. Teachers also need more assistance in the areas of psychology and classroom mgmt. Many children are coming from experiences of abuse, extreme stress, trauma, etc. teachers must know how to identify these issues and support the students. Calling for parental involvement is good yet unrealistic and not far reaching enough. Parents are overworked, underpaid and trying to get a little time to bring home the fast food and watch American Idle.

We need to engage the entire community from single hipsters to couples without children to become a part of the educational process and support schools, teachers and students. The whole nation suffers when students are dumb&dumber, drop-out, etc. The entire framework needs to be re-evaluated and adjusted for a 22nd century reality not one driven by producing more cogs for the non-existent industrial machine. (as the bell rings)
