Joe Hill and the Youth PROMISE Act
br>
In Joe’s community, nearly 50% of young black men are dropping out of high school. Hundreds of homicides happen every year where the victim, and the criminal, are less than 21 years old.
Real juvenile justice doesn’t mean harsher sentencing, bigger penalties, and more resources for crime enforcement. A country lives and dies on the backs and minds of its children, and some people in Washington get that. The Youth PROMISE Act puts power into the hands of communities to solve their own problems. It encourages collaboration between local groups –non-profits, schools, faith-based organizations– and only distributes funds to programs that are proven to be effective.
It’s just what our communities need. The chance to address our issues on our own turf, with the knowledge that only comes from being there 24/7/365.
