Separating the Ones from the Zeros

Today is a historic day for American television, right up there with the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and the first time Dave Chappelle channeled Rick James.
After seventy years of analog service, the American television industry is set to switch off their analog transmitters for crisp, ultra-nerdy digital perfection.
Many people anticipate a better quality viewing experience. Unfortunately, thousands and thousands of Americans are completely unprepared for the switch and, throughout today, will watch the weather change on their TV sets and I’m talking snow, snow, snow.
According to tvnewsday.com,
In Nielsen’s final update before the June 12 deadline, 2.8 million American households, or 2.5% of the television market, are completely unready for the transition to digital television. Younger, African American and Hispanic homes are disproportionately unready, while the elderly are the most ready.
It’s never easy, is it? We spend all day dealing with unemployment, educational debt, environmental crisis, social intimidation, social marginalization, and the status quo, and we can’t even watch a game when we get home at night.
Or, maybe we don’t care ’cause we got youtube.
