I’m not going to lie, I am pretty dissatisfied with the state of hip-hop. Call me old school, or call me a hater, but it’s sort of hard for me to understand how the art form that inspired me as a child and teenager has transformed into the nonsense that I hear on the radio. Let’s be honest, its not like Drake or Weezy are inspiring anybody to pick up a book and read.
But every now and then I catch a glimpse of that magic that once motivated me when I was a kid. Like this kid in the video after the jump. You can tell from his swag that he is just looking for the same outlet for self expression that b-boys and b-girls, rappers and graf writers needed back in the day. It’s just that the outlet and form are different.
This video is craaaazy right?! He didn’t care who was watching or where he was. Like the early hip-hoppers who lived and died (literally) to let the world hear their voice, this young man is trying to make his mark. That’s what hip-hop was always about, and I am inspired to see that the spirit still lives on.
