Barney Frank is a BAMF.

At a town hall meeting last night, Representative Barney Frank (D-MA) was confronted by a crowd of crazies, comparing health care reform to Nazi policy.

Let’s just sit back and watch his response.

Oh, do you hear that? That’s the sound of someone getting OWNED.
And that smell? That’s the smell of progress.

I’ve gotta say – there’s nobody in the world that I admire more than Barney Frank right now. The media isn’t calling these people out and Barney’s just telling it like it is. It’s the political equivalent of a diss track. More people need to stand up and call all these propagated lies on what they really are: pure, unadulterated bull.

Hip-Hop is Not Dead…It’s Digital. Just Ask This Kid At The Mac Store

August 19, 2009 Front Page 1 Comment

boom-boom-powI’m not going to lie, I am pretty dissatisfied with the state of hip-hop. Call me old school, or call me a hater, but it’s sort of hard for me to understand how the art form that inspired me as a child and teenager has transformed into the nonsense that I hear on the radio. Let’s be honest, its not like Drake or Weezy are inspiring anybody to pick up a book and read.

But every now and then I catch a glimpse of that magic that once motivated me when I was a kid. Like this kid in the video after the jump. You can tell from his swag that he is just looking for the same outlet for self expression that b-boys and b-girls, rappers and graf writers needed back in the day. It’s just that the outlet and form are different.

The Council Has Spoken: Stop The Violence

August 19, 2009 Front Page 3 Comments

The members of the Leadership Council of Boys and Girls Club of Southern Ute Indian Tribe made this video for 99Problems.org to make their voices heard across the country

Check out this introduction to the Leadership Council by Mari V, who works with them:

“The Leadership Council of the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Ute Indian Tribe is made up of members from 3rd through 8th grades. It is one of the leading leadership councils in La Plata County, which is located in southwestern Colorado. The Leadership Council learns Native American forms of leadership and government through field trips, meeting with tribal council, and meeting with elders on our reservation. The council has met with County commissioners, Southern Ute Tribal Council, and been featured in two local newspapers, and the Southern Ute Drum, the tribe’s newspaper.

Our Leadership Council is distinct in that we are part of Indian country and that our club is of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Many times rural and Native American youth are never expected to have a voice in politics, the Leadership Council proves this wrong by showing that youth from these populations should always be put in the political arena.”

It’s so inspiring to see young people so passionate about these issues. Keep fighting the good fight!

The X Fact(her): Health Care Reform for Dummies

August 18, 2009 Front Page 1 Comment

Can someone please tell me why these people are mad?

Haven’t they watched SICKO? Well maybe their Senators should hold a town hall meeting where they watch the Michael Moore documentary about health insurance in America and let see if they continue to bitch and moan about Prez Obama’s proposed reform.

I won’t pretend to know the ins and outs of the bill that is on the table but I do know I need cheaper health care.

Invincible’s List of *Today’s Most Influential Female MCs in Hip-Hop

invincible_sm
Never let it be said that I can’t admit when I am wrong. Last week I posted a blog called “Where is the Next Lauryn Hill?” where I pretty much said that hip-hop is dying because of the lack of female participation. Boy was I off the mark! Immediately after posting the blog dozens of hip-hop fans hit me up via Twitter, Facebook and in 99p’s comment section to let me know that hip-hop is filled with strong women voices.

After the jump is an email I received from Detroit’s very own Invincible, who many consider to be hip-hop’s most talented female MC. (Although I think she might be offended by that statement, because she once rapped “I wanna be known as the best rapper, period. Not just the best with breasts and a period” or something like that.) In it she lays out a list of the top women rappers in music today.
