Word To Erica Williams, We Have To Keep Proving Ourselves!!

August 17, 2009 Front Page 4 Comments

wwilliamsOn August 13th, 2009 I had the privilege of being part of a youth voter panel at Netroots Nation 2009 called “Getting Ish Done.” The other panelists were Heather Smith from Rock The Vote, Erica Williams from Campus Progress, Christina Hollenback from Generation Alliance, and Jefferson Smith from the Bus Project.

Check out Erica Williams’ intro after the jump.

I have to say that it was a hecka impressive discussion. But, I actually thought the questions from the crowd were probably even more important than what the panelists had to say. For example, youth leader Shaunna Thomas (formerly of YP4) asked how we keep government accountable if we don’t get the public option, not the typical type of question that you would expect from a young voter.

Overall, I left Netroots more inspired then ever. The millennial generation has to keep fighting to make the world a better place. Lots of people thought that the election of Barack Obama was about personality; I don’t. I think it was about real change. Hopefully we won’t stop being the change we want to see.
