MILWAUKEE FLOOD: “Katrina-esque”
I received a note on Facebook from my buddy Jason displaying such frustration in regards to the response to the civilians in need during yesterdays flood in Milwaukee. In addition to the note, my homie “Say No More” did a superb job of capturing different scenarios that occurred in some of the under-covered areas of Milwaukee and they kinda go hand in hand..Check It Out
Words cannot describe how upset, disappointed, and outright angered i am, but i will none the less do my best. First and foremost, i salute all of those that i seen either assisting to divert traffic from flooded areas as well as selflessly assisting others in need. I myself was initially safe at home with no flooding, but when i found out someone i cared about was stranded in water, i got up and went to their assistance. I passed numerous stalled vehicles and trapped motorists, yet i pressed on..i found it aggravating to see so many people driving recklessly not to mention driving at all. The area of assistance i was en route to was severely flooded and i found myself on a 68 mile excursion around the city to get there. After passing so many people in need, i found myself pulled over and helping push cars to a non-flooded area on the side of the road. Car after car after car..and i actually smiled because all i seen were people from all walks of life, ages, and ethnic backgrounds helping each other out. I was then angered because what i did NOT see was a force that is sworn to serve and protect. I have seen more Milwaukee Police officers and squads respond to a club at bar time than i did last night. I did see all of MFD in full force so Kudos to the boys in red and yellow, but shame to those in blue. Throughout the night i started to see a trickle of police officers pull their vehicles in front of heavily flooded areas with no other attempt to divert traffic or aide those already stranded. I witness a squad with the Neighborhood Task Force, a task force known for violence towards inner city milwaukee residents sit in their vehicle and observe chaos on capital drive next to Popeyes and the wash down from Ned’s Pizza.. they did absolutely NOTHING but watch while other civilians helped resuce a person sitting on top of their car in 6ft deep water. The more i reflect on what i witnessed last night, the more upset i get at this city, this city’s leadership, and those in a position of power in this city. It’s time for those with the REAL power in this city to stand up and demand a higher quality of service.. the residents of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
And a quick note to soon to be FORMER Mayor of Milwaukee.. you’re not ACTING like you can run a city let alone a State… your constituents and voters are watching you closely. Get right or don’t get elected. I urge every resident that is outraged with the way the city is handling this disaster to contact the Mayor’s Office and let your voice be heard. If you feel so inclined, contact the County Executive, Scott Walker, but it’s not like he’ll listen anyways..
