If film directer Ron Shelton decided to shoot a 20th anniversary remake of the 1992 comedy classic “White Men Can’t Jump,” he would have the perfect cast if he was able to get Los Angeles forward Blake Griffin to play Sidney Deane and Illinois College student/YouTube phenom Jacob Tucker as Billy Hoyle. Tucker’s iPhone-filmed personal slam dunk contest has not only taken the internet by storm, but thanks to an 88 percent victory over NAIA player Rico Cunningham from Lee University in a fan-voted Facebook poll, he was chosen to be the last competitor in the 23rd annual State Farm College Slam Dunk Contest.
As the 2010 NFL Playoffs were approaching, there were many headlines leading into the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl run. Tom Brady and Mike Vick were competing for the MVP Title. The New York Jets’ were still guaranteeing a Title. Aaron Rodgers was flexing his “People’s Champ” title and NFL owners were prepping for what is now an NFL lockout.
