Jasiri X Premieres Jordan Miles Music Video

In one of Pittsburgh’s most egregious episodes of police brutality, unarmed high school student Jordan Miles was beaten beyond recognition. Since the attack, his family was awarded $180,000 in a civil suit. However, his family turned down the payment, saying that they were more interested in justice than hush money.

One Hood Media will be premiering the video in its entirety tonight and also hosting a panel discussion. If you’re in Pittsburgh, make sure to stop by Homewood Library at 7 p.m.

99Problems wants to hear your stories on police brutality in your city. Leave a comment if you’re tired of staying quiet on the #Criminalinjustice system.

Department of Justice may look at Legality of Voter ID Laws

Got ID logoLast week, 99Problems published a piece on the new voter ID bills sweeping the nation. It’s yet another disheartening episode of politicians attempting to change the rules of the game behind our backs by making it much harder to vote.

The new bills mandate photo IDs in order to vote in certain states. This means that, regardless of whether you have access to get to a DMV or whether you have the paperwork to get a state ID, you have to fork out money to go get a new one in order to cast a ballot.

This is not a joke: 4.5 million voters aged 18-29 do not have the right ID to vote.

Led by Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, 13 congressman have signed a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, asking the Department of Justice to investigate the legality of these laws. The legislators even went so far as to deem it a violation of federal civil rights laws.

Hip-Hop: From Gangstas to Wankstas to Plankstas

June 29, 2011 Front Page 2 Comments

It doesn’t get anymore ridiculous than this. The lying down game which was brought to life back in 2006 is back with a mean twist: social media. People are submitting and sharing photos of themselves posing in vertical and horizontal corpse-style positions. The more public, the better. The larger the group, the better. No location is out of bound when playing this game. Unfortunately, there are people taking extreme risks to stand out and have died in the process. Could that be the attraction?

Joe Budden’s planking tweet may have been what sparked the interest of stakeholders in hip-hop. Whatever it is, the fact that there are sightings of Slim Thug and Glasses Malone participating, two artists who displayed their gangsta status publicly, hip-hop is definitely D.T.P.>>>down to plank!
