#OccupyWallStreet Raided Overnight

November 15, 2011 Front Page 1 Comment

UPDATE: Judge rules that protesters can return to the park, but without tents.

The most recent update in the #OccupyWallStreet movement came about in the form of an eviction in Zuccotti Park early Tuesday morning.

Occupy Wall Street protesters were ordered to leave Zuccotti Park, their longtime encampment in Lower Manhattan but they’ve been told they can return once it has been cleaned. In addition, a media blackout was enforced as journalists were detained and arrested.

The owners of the park, along with Mayor Bloomberg, forced the protestors out of the park and began an immediate cleaning. They also made it clear that the individuals may no longer bring tents, sleeping bags or any camping attire into the park.

This eviction set off a ripple effect all over the country. Officials have been forcefully removing protestors from parks in Albany, Chapel Hill, Denver, Oakland, Portland and Salt Lake City. So could this be the end of the #OccupyWallStreet movement?

Check out what the Los Angeles Times reported:

“But angry and often distraught Occupy Wall Street supporters moved themselves a few blocks away to the corner of Canal Street and 6th Avenue, where they began planning a general assembly meeting to plan their next move. Some also went to Foley Square, marching past City Hall en route.

“Today it’s about reclaiming our park,” Natas Rivera, one of the people who marched to Foley Square, told a reporter.

Following an outburst all over social media networks, the organizers resolutely stood their ground:

“A statement put out by supporters of Occupy Wall Street said the eviction would not stop the movement. ‘We are appalled, but not deterred,’ it said. ‘Today we are stronger than we were yesterday. Tomorrow we will be stronger still.’”

Though the Occupy crowds have been removed from their protest sites, it does not seem to be stopping them in the least. They are continuing to make sure their voices are heard and they show no signs of stopping any time soon.

A little while after the evacuation of Wall Street, the Occupy Wall Street supporters issued “A Call to Occupy” message through their website in hopes of rallying together more supports for a major shutdown of Wall Street on November 17, 2011.

Their tagline reads:

“You cannot evict an idea whose time has come. We are the 99%. WE ARE EVERYWHERE.”
