The Greatest Love of All

I was pulling into my driveway Saturday, when I turned on 107.9 and heard DJ Drama crying. Well, at least it sounded as if Drama was crying, because he didn’t sound like normal. Drama said that tonight, he had some sad news to report.

I was expecting to hear about another rapper going to prison or beefing in the A, but when he said that we had just lost WHITNEY HOUSTON, my heart dropped. How was this possible?

I just watched her and Jordin Sparks in an interview talking about their new movie, “Sparkle.” Whitney looked so beautiful, so full of life, so happy! I was really anticipating “Sparkle” (my favorite movie of all time) to be released in theaters. I just watched Whitney singing at Kelly Price’s Grammy party on line and now your telling me that she’s gone? I rushed into the house for another source to confirm what I was hoping was a rumor. I turned on CNN and Don Lemon was on the air reporting that indeed our Angel had fallen.

Fake Identities. Fake Lifestyles. Fake Rhymes: The Rap Game in 2012

Matthew 16:26: For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

In 1993, a film called “CB4,” directed by Tamra Davis and starring Chris Rock hit theaters across America. If you haven’t seen this movie, it also stars Charlie Murphy as Gusto, who is sent away to prison. While Gusto is away in prison, Chris Rock (Albert) and his rap group steal his criminal background and identity to become “MC Gusto,” and forms the hardcore gangsta rap group CB4 (Cell Block 4).

Todays hip-hop artists remind me so much of CB4 that they should all be given Oscars.

I See You Strapped Up…

I see you strapped up
ready to let your pistol loose
Jump out boys
In the black navi taking pictures
Life’s a marathon
young soldier, not a race.

What you need to do
is slow down your pace
and just listen
Ya missin the whole world
Settling for chump change
That shyt is Crumbs
And what’s even more strange

Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now (But Us)

In the movie Mannequin, a 1987 romantic comedy, Kim Cattrall (of Sex and the City fame) stars as Emmy. She hides out in a pyramid from her mother because she wants her to marry someone against her will. Emmy prayed for the gods to rescue her so that she wouldn’t have to marry this random guy who’s a camel dung dealer. Her prayers were answered by the gods and she is sent traveling through time, where she winds up as a mannequin on a quest to find true love. When Emmy finds love – that’s when she is turned back into a HUMAN!

I’m sitting here wondering what were the writers thinking when they wrote that script? Did they ever envision a futuristic version reality that is the opposite of the movie? Because, when I look outside, I see Mannequin 2 and this ain’t no sequel but the roles are clearly reversed. Nowadays, we got humans acting as mannequins with NO emotion and no signs of a spirit, while their plastic body parts are dressed in the latest fashions.

I Love Hip-Hop Artists, but I Can’t Stand Rappers

October 19, 2011 Front Page 2 Comments

Last night I was watching a Chris Rock stand-up special and in it, there’s a part where he says “I love black people. but I can’t stand N@%%$!”

It got me to thinking – I love hip-hop artists, but I can’t stand rappers. Rappers suck – they have a platform to express what’s happening here on the ground in our country and share it with the world, and I ain’t hearing nothing but party and bullshyt! I stay in the A and on the radio stations, I don’t hear any songs about real issues affecting our everyday lives. We’ve got Troy Davis (police brutality), #OccupyWallStreet, unemployment – I mean, damn, aren’t these rappers the same ones screaming “welcome to my hood”? WTF hood do they come from because the ones that I live  and organize in are in a State of Emergency, but listening to these rappers everything is Strip Club Muzic, get as F&*^$# up as you possibly can and kill ni$$@Z after you do it.
