Changing of the Guard

Tuesday night was a paradigm shift in Pennsylvania History! Old blood was retired and new blood was given a chance! Many in Pennsylvania knew Arlen Specter as a moderate conservative in Pennsylvania who back in 2008 switched to the blue Democratic side to ensure his re-election to the United States Senate. Many would say that the Obama effect is failing as OFA canvassed, robo-called and phone banked the citizens of Pennsylvania to ensure voter turnout for Senator Specter. However when it came down to it Tuesday, the voters of Pennsylvania were not happy with where Mr. Specter stood on different issues within our state and his long run in congress and so many felt that it was time for a new young person in office.

If You Want to Help Out in the Gulf of Mexico, Cut Your Hair?

May 11, 2010 Climate, Solutions No Comments

That’s right women, you saw it here! If you want to help with the Gulf, cut your hair. Now I know that seems outrageous but apparently, just as hair has the ability to absorb the oils released from our skin it can do the same for the oil in the ocean. Check out this link for more details!

Lena Horne Dies at 93

May 10, 2010 Front Page No Comments

Lena Horne was one of our most influential singers, singing in the famous Cotton Club at just 16! She starred in films like Cabin in the Sky and Stormy Weather and even performed on Broadway. She was also known for civic engagement, and participated in the March on Washington in 1963.

Ms. Horne was an inspiration to generations of performers and, like other great African American artists who performed in the 1920′s and 30′s, broke many barriers. When I hear Lena Horne’s name, I think of the greats like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. She stood among the greatest and will be missed in the music world!

Check out a clip of Lena Horne in Stormy Weather after the jump!

Now Is The Appointed Time

Hey all,

So I figure that this is something that’s really interesting! I have given a lot of thought about the 3 fossil fuel disasters over the past 2 weeks and what is really interesting is that these came at a time when climate legislation is supposed to be the top of the list of priorities for the Senate! I think it is now the appointed time for the environmental movement to stand up and really fight for what is needed: One, safer working conditions and two, climate legislation that does not include off shore drilling, coal or natural gas! Especially since the companies can’t even keep their workers safe! Well, I hope everyone is now calling their senators and telling them that they need to pass a strong climate bill without “clean” coal, drilling and natural gas!  Let’s also keep the families of the 11 lost on the oil rig in our thoughts and prayers as it is a shame that we have to lose valuable lives in order to truly understand the need to kick the dirty energy habit!
