AKA: Ace Ventura: Perv Detective

Ace Ventura is back and he seems very, very lonely. Publicity stunt? Hail Mary Pass for a lonely old man? My bet is #1, seems too Charlie Sheen to me. 35k views so far, watch it before it POPS!

Fixing the Economy Starts At Home

The New Bottom Line is a national campaign to protect America’s middle-class communities from big bank BS and Wall Street Shenanigans. They just released a proposal to fix the Housing Crisis that would bring 3 billion dollars to the Illinois economy and create 42,000 jobs. This week, President Obama wrapped up his Bus Tour in IL; hopefully he caught some of their talking points!

Hit the jump for their press release and video from a recent visit to Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller.

6 years later, still picking up the pieces of Katrina

July 12, 2011 Culture, Problems No Comments

Hurricane Katrina ranks as the costliest natural disaster in human history. But more than the damage wrought by Mother Nature, it is the callous disregard for the poor and black residents of Louisiana and stories of police abuse that endure as the lowest moments in that tragedy. Rumors that police had attacked and, in at least one case, murdered helpless residents of the city were disbelieved, denied, and, until now, forgotten.

William Faulkner said the past is never dead; it’s not even past. And six years later, on Monday, July 11th, a former New Orleans police detective testified that he fabricated witnesses and helped plant a gun to justify the shooting of unarmed residents on a New Orleans bridge after Katrina. From the article:

Lehrmann said the false accounts of what officers did on the bridge continually changed as they honed their cover story.

“The lies changed whenever we needed to change them,” he said.

Nuclear Future: The Offless Switch

March 14, 2011 Climate, Problems 6 Comments

Ominous Red Button paired with classic On/Off Switch
That picture fairly sums up everything else I’m going to say: what’s the difference between the left switch and the right? Options. Something we’re all woefully without when it comes to the nuclear standoff between man and his machines happening right now in Japan, by far the worst non-local-like-in-your-backyard news story still unfolding today…and potentially an in-your-backyard apocalypse. The tsunami and earthquake devastation in Japan would, by themselves, constitute a massive human tragedy. But the looming threat of nuclear meltdown has given the last few days a particular poignancy outside the scope of Mother Nature.

What safeguards do we have with an off-less switch? Open up.

Obama Pardons Turkey

November 24, 2010 Solutions No Comments
As is tradition, President Obama pardons a turkey

And the President thinks, "Seriously? You pay me for this?"

Now that we’ve got that out of the way! America, where even our superficial pardons are super official. Sorry to the 45 million of you that didn’t make it.

And now for something completely different: a surreal spectacle that, perversely, makes total sense – and is therefore all the more horrifying. A spectacle I can sum up no better than the search Youtube suggested to me…

I give you the Sarah Palin turkey slaughter interview.
