[WATCH] We Are Lakeside Pep Rally

February 26, 2012 Front Page, Sports No Comments

Last week, a group of young homies that we’ve been mentoring held a pep rally for their AAU basketball program in Milwaukee. There were a lot of young people in attendance and we wanted to have a presence to let them know that they’ve got support from us, if not from anyone else.

The media’s quick to cover stories that show our young people in a negative light but when they’re doing something positive and constructive, we’re nowhere to be found. I commend the effort of Dumaine Reid, the face of Mission 10-11 collective and one of the coordinators of the Lakeside Basketball program. Keep up the good work bro!

Are Kobe and Vanessa Reunited?

February 17, 2012 Sports No Comments

Talk about a Valentine’s Day gift! Just when it seemed that Kobe would be losing over $75 million in assets and would be separating from his wife, Vanessa Bryant, things may change. After the Los Angeles Lakers 86-78 victory against the Atlanta Hawks the other day, the Bryants were seen kissing and hugging in the tunnel after the game.

Vanessa was seen in the stands last night and also was waiting for her knight in gold and purple outside the Lakers’ locker room. I knew something funny was in the air when Kobe only put up 10 points 4 rebounds and 4 assist. I guess love was in the air.

M.I.A.’s Super Bowl Middle Finger

February 7, 2012 Front Page, Music, Sports No Comments

A record-setting 111.3 million viewers tuned in to see the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 21 to 17 in Super Bowl XLVI. However, the biggest story outside of the game seems to revolve around British rapper M.I.A (real name Maya Arulpragasam) who guest-starred in Madonna’s half-time performance and caused a bit of a stir when she gave the camera the middle finger.

If the FCC decides to fine someone for this flipping of the bird, M.I.A could be the one who winds up writing the check (according to reports). Sources say that the NFL had Madonna’s supporting acts sign a contract holding them responsible for any fines that could come from from the FCC if they did anything that warranted a fine during the performance. As you remember, Janet Jackson’s 2004 wardrobe malfunction with Justin Timberlake earned CBS a $550,000 fine, but that was eventually thrown out by a federal appeals court.

Boston Bruins Goalie Tim Thomas Snubs President Obama

January 26, 2012 Front Page, Politics, Sports No Comments

The reigning Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins visited the White House on Monday, but star goalie Tim Thomas made bigger news by choosing not to attend. Tim Thomas was one of only two Americans on last year’s championship hockey team. In a statement on Facebook, Thomas said, “I believe the Federal government has grown out of control” and ” This was not about politics or party.”

He made this about politics when he chose not to attend!

Did Tim Thomas have the right not to attend? Absolutely. But should he have actually attended? … Continue Reading
