#NewMusic: BJ The Chicago Kid “East Side High 2012 & Forever”

March 12, 2012 Music No Comments

BJTCK, one of the many artists that are scheduled to be present at SXSW (click link for show details), has just released an album called Pineapple Now & Laters, some of which we’ve posted last week. The second song on the album is a cover of East Side High’s Alma Mater from “Lean on Me.”

I have never heard a rendition this smooth.

#NewMusic: Blu “Jesus”

February 5, 2012 Music 2 Comments

It’s safe to say on this Sunday morning that we could all use a lil bit of Jesus, whether it be a scripture or even some sort of divine intervention. At least I could but would that be enough?

Blu, the LA-based rapper, taps into his spiritual realm and crowns Jesus as the focus of his latest project entitled, “Jesus” and the featured visual is reminiscent of a scene out the ’70s. It’s not as “Jesus Walks” as I expected, but I can appreciate Jesus in hip-hop.

If you’re curious, Blu’s Jesus EP can be purchased off of iTunes

#NewMusic: Young Jeezy x Jill Scott “Trapped”

December 21, 2011 Featured Artist, Music No Comments

I don’t know what the hold up was at Def Jam, but Young Jeezy has just made the official public release of his long-awaited TM-103 album. Finally! Class had been in session for quite a while and no thug-motivated teacher.

Although the project consists of quite a few songs that we the cool kids have been hip to for quite a while, such as the collaborative track “I Do” featuring Jay Z and Andre 3000, a few gems like the Jill Scott record makes the wait well worth it. I mean, Jill Scott starts the Justice League-produced ballad with a rap seeming to be reflective of a mix between Wyclef and Mary J. Blige. I know what it feels like to be trapped, however, I feel as though Jeezy knows a lil bit more than I do. You be the judge.
