Here’s another dope artist to add 2 the collection. Pun intended! The Chicago native, @ADD2theMC just recently released a new visual and it’s deeper than rap. Maya Angelou Disapproves of Common’s Use of ‘N-Word’ on “The Dreamer”

December 19, 2011 Music 1 Comment

Common sense tells anyone that if you’re going to be featured on a song with the great Maya Angelou, you better keep it PG. However, artist sense will allow you to use whatever is necessary to get the the point across. Ironically, the rapper who was once known as Common Sense uses his artist sense and pisses off Maya Angelou in the process. The two recently collaborated on his latest album “The Dreamer / The Believer.” On the track, Common tells stories, as he’s known to do, and he doesn’t leave a detail out.

Ms. Angelou had this to say:

“I had no idea that Common was using the piece we had done together on [a track] in which he also used the ‘N’ word numerous times. I’m surprised and disappointed. I don’t know why he chose to do that. I had never heard him use that [word] before. I admired him so because he wasn’t singing the line of least resistance,”

In his defense, Common had this to say:

“I told her what ‘The Dreamer’ was about and what I wanted to get across to people. I wanted young people to hear this and feel like they could really accomplish their dreams.”
