[EVENT RECAP] RedBull EmSee x Detroit

October 29, 2011 Music No Comments

The Redbull EmSee|Detroit event was a good look. Our Executive Director of the League of Young Voters, Biko Baker, took off his suit and put on some swag as he was visibly in attendance w/ last year’s champion, FowL. You might’ve spotted him in the packed crowd at St. Andrews hall but no, he wasn’t soliciting. However, the demographic that we’re constantly trying to reach were definitely in there deep! Besides the fact that Royce Da 5’9, Trick Trick & Mr Porter served as judges, Biko would’ve been an awesome addition as well, given his background as a hip=hop enthusiast.

At the end of the day, there were some notable opponents but only one winner made the headlines.

Today in Sports History: Barry Sanders Retires

July 28, 2011 Front Page, Sports No Comments

Before Adrian Peterson, Ladainian Tomlinson, Emmitt Smith and Reggie Bush became household names, there was an electric running back in the Motor City that changed the game at his position. Twelve years ago today, Barry Sanders broke the hearts of many Detroit Lions and NFL fans by announcing his retirement in 1999.

Sanders was widely respected for his breathtaking moves and leaving defenses who opposed him scrambled. Sanders retired at age 31 – only 1,457 yards away at that time from the NFL rushing record that was held by Walter Payton and is now held by former Dallas Cowboy Emmitt Smith. Sanders played 10 seasons in Detroit and the Lions made the Playoffs five times never winning a Super Bowl. Today, we remember Barry’s outstanding career.
