Van Jones Talks About His “Rough Exit” from the White House

July 8, 2010 Politics No Comments

The last time Van Jones spoke at a Campus Progress National Convention, he was an environmental adviser in the White House — “and now I’m not,” he said at this year’s conference Wednesday. “That sucks.”

But despite his self-described “rough exit” from the White House last September, he said he wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.

“What I learned in those six months [in the White House] I am going to be able to take with me forever,” he said addressing a group of 1,200 young liberal activists at the Campus Progress national conference in downtown Washington. It was Jones’ first high-profile remarks about his White House experience.

“If you were given the same opportunity I was to go and serve for six months, and it was 100 percent guaranteed that you’d have the same rough exit that I had, do it — it’s worth every minute,” he said.

Glenn Beck taunts Malia Obama on air

May 28, 2010 Culture, Problems 1 Comment

I was trying to find the right words to illustrate this vicious, creepy, pointless, moronic, undignified attack on a child who happens to be the youngest daughter of the President of the United States by Glenn Beck, when I realized that no words were necessary. Just listen up:

Just listen to this clip, to two grown men chuckling and bullying and delighting in their verbal mockery of a young child, and then go do something nice for someone who deserves it. There’s no better way to combat Beck’s crassness then by ignoring it and acting like a freaking decent human being. If only Beck’s family, friends, and producers encouraged the same behavior in him. Soapbox out.

A Return to Glory and A Bit of Irony!- Van Jones Receives NAACP President’s Image Award

van-jonesThe NAACP, the oldest and most powerful Civil Rights organization in America, is going to Honor former Green Czar Van Jones with an Image Award. The NAACP is stating that he is a pioneer in the “green collar jobs” with movement. This well deserved award is so ironic as roughly 6 months ago, Fox News Anchor Glenn Beck single handedly caused a furor within the conservative right community that led to Mr. Jones Resignation. Beck took a series of Van’s remarks out of context and blew them out of proportion, leading to unwanted negative attention on the newly appoint ‘czar’ on green economy.

Where the irony lies is that the NAACP Image Awards are aired each year by the Fox Network, and is a prestigious awards show that honors the achievements of people of color and their allies for advancements in the areas, of Music, Movies, Social justice and Civil rights!!! I am sure that Glenn Beck sat in astonishment as the NAACP announced that Van Jones would be receiving the Presidents Award. The Presidents Award is the most prestigious award handed out at the NAACP Image Awards and has been awarded to others such as President Bill Clinton, Muhammad Ali and Ruby Dee just to name a few. Awarding Mr. Jones an award such as this directly counteracts the damage that Glenn Beck and other conservatives have to leverage on many progressives that President Obama has placed in his administration.

Many in the movement, those who fight for green collar jobs, environmental and climate justice and all other aspects of the green movement, felt betrayed and hurt by the resignation of Mr. Jones as their one ally that they trusted left them in the dust. Yet in the end, justice comes full circle the very same network that worked to lead Jones to his resignation will also be showing his return to Glory!!! Don’t you just love Karma? Maybe Glen Beck and others will realize that you can’t keep a “ Good Man Down”!!!!

In addition to Mr. Jones receipt of the Image Award, Mr. Jones will also be joining Princeton and the Center for American Progress. This is return to glory for Mr. Jones, and I cannot wait to see how he will continue to fight for the underserved in his new endeavors. Please tune in on Friday February 26th at 8pm on FOX network to watch the 41st NAACP Awards, and the rise of one of America’s Brightest and most influential minds today.

Van Jones lands at Princeton

Anthony (Van) Jones, who resigned as an environmental policy adviser to the Obama administration after coming under fire from conservatives for past statements and political activities, has been named as a visiting fellow at Princeton University for the coming academic year. A statement being released by the university today says that Mr. Jones will be a distinguished visiting fellow at both its Center for African American Studies and its Program in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy, and that he will teach a course on race, ecology, and the environment during the spring 2011 semester. Mr. Jones, a 1993 graduate of Yale Law School and co-founder of three advocacy organizations, served as a special adviser to the White House Council on Environmental Quality from March to September of 2009. He left the position after being attacked for publicly using a crude insult in reference to Republicans, signing a petition that questioned whether the Bush administration deliberately allowed the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and having past connections to a radical Bay Area group with Marxist origins.

WTF?! Fox News is the Most Trusted Name in News….No, Really!!

January 29, 2010 Front Page 1 Comment

On Tuesday, Public Policy Polling released a poll that said Fox News is the most trusted name in TV news.

In a national survey of 1,151 registered voters, Fox News was the only news outlet that more respondents trusted than distrusted. Some 49% of those polled said they trust Fox News, compared to 37% who said they didn’t. Not surprisingly, there is a strong partisan split: 74% of those who placed their trust in the conservative-skewing network are registered Republicans.

NBC News, which is likely helped by its liberal-skewing MSNBC affiliation, fared best among Democrats. The survey found 62% of Democrats trust the broadcast network’s news.CBS News fared worst among the Republicans (69% distrust it) and independents were generally distrustful of all five news sources they were polled on: Fox News, CNN, ABC News, NBC News and CBS News.

Who the hell were they polling? It clearly wasn’t younger people who watch news with a more critical eye. And forget about the partisan split, because really, the stuff that is going on at MSNBC these days is at times almost as egregious as the shenanigans that goes on at Fox. Call us old fashion, but we believe that unless you are on Comedy Central, nightly news outlets shouldn’t be biased mouth pieces for either party.

The bound-to-be-controversial poll results come on the heels of Glenn Beck taking second place in a recent Harris Poll of America’s favorite TV personalities (Oprah is No. 1) and his host network rounding out the week with its highest prime-time ratings in more than a year. Thanks to the closely watched U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, the right-leaning cable network ranked No. 1 among all cable networks with 3.2 million tuning in. Still more impressive, its coverage of the Tuesday night election drew more than 6 million viewers in prime time.

After reading this BS we felt that we have no choice but to post the classic viral video of Davey D sticking it to Fox News’ semi-ridiculous pundit Griff Jenkins. Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying.

Answer the question Fox News!!
