Political Quick Hits: January 27th Edition

Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:

• Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords officially resigned from Congress on Wednesday. She resigned to focus more on her recovery from being shot in January, 2011 at a political event in Arizona. Giffords’ pledged to return one day saying, “Everyday, I am working hard. I will recover and will return, and we will work together again, for Arizona and for all Americans.” (NBC)

Trailblazer Geraldine Ferraro passes away at age 75

Geraldine Ferraro, the first ever woman vice presidential nominee, passed away on Saturday at age 75 after a 12-year battle with myeloma. In 1984, Mrs. Ferraro became the first female vice presidential candidate from a major U.S. political party  when she ran alongside democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale. They eventually lost the presidential race in a landslide to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

A quick look at a few developing stories in the political arena:

• A recent CNN Poll shows Americans who view the economy in poor shape is at its highest level it has been in the past two years. 84% of Americans polled rate the current economic conditions as poor, up 9 points from January. Rising gas prices, unemployment, and the deficit are the 3 main concerns of the problems our economy is facing.  56% questioned say they support using the government’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, to put more oil on the market to combat rising prices.

The X Fact(her): Hillary Clinton Will Beat Your Ass

I’ve watched the video of Hillary Clinton spazzing out on that poor Congolese college student at least ten times and each time it gets me hype. She was in the Congo to speak on behalf of women’s rights specifically the epidemic of Congolese women and girls being raped and used as weapons of war. During a stop on her tour, she took questions at a town hall-style meeting on Monday.

One male student made the mistake of asking the Secretary of State: “Mrs. Clinton, we’ve all heard about the Chinese contracts in [The Congo]… What does Mr. Clinton think through the mouth of Mrs. Clinton…Thank you very much.”

For a split second I could see the sista in her, I think there’s even a visible neck roll and if you look closely I’ve been told you can see her lips mouth “Bitch, please!”

Her reaction is priceless.
