April 12, 2013 Front Page, Politics No Comments

Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:

  • March’s job report was released last Friday, and the news was mixed. Hiring slowed with only 88,000 jobs added, which is the lowest monthly gain since last June. While the unemployment rate dropped to 7.6 percent, it’s estimated that nearly 500,000 people dropped out of the job market. (USA Today)

#NewMusic: Hit Boy “HITstory” Mixtape

The dude behind a lot of your favorite hits pulled a Kanye and came out with his own shhh! I approve of this route. I always say once you’re in the game, you can do whatever you want. If you rap but you’re equally good at producing, you might wanna take heed and go for what’s gonna get you in the door the fastest.

If you’re not up on the Surf Club’s franchise player, Hit Boy, you need to get hit, boy! But how about you hit yourself over the head with this awesome music this Tuesday?

#NewMusic: J. Cole “The Cure”

There are 99 problems in hip-hop and J. Cole proves he isn’t one of them for he’s part of the solution and not the problem. More appropriately, J. Cole provides the cure, a 4:30 audio treat over his boss, boss’ bro and b’s “Lift Off” record that’ll made you think he was a freshmen again. However, if you listen closely to his content and delivery, you can tell that he’s matured but for the better or the worst? You be the judge..

#NewMusic: Rick Ross x Dr. Dre x Jay Z “3 Kings”

Classic hip hop sh*t! Dr. D.R.E., Rozay & Jay got em! I couldn’t have asked for a better collaboration. But now that this has come, what’s next? Who’s the next to get the last of the classic Jay verses? Although I could go another song without hearing about Jay and Basquiats, what I enjoy about Jay’s lyrics is the fact that this dude don’t be lying so what he is saying is easier to be captivated by.

“used to shop at TJ Maxx back in ’83, I dont even know if it was open then, I ain’t know Oprah then!”

Jay-Z and Pacquiao on Same-Sex Marriage

Boxer Manny Pacquiao was recently denied access to a scheduled-interview at the Grove Shopping Mall for his remarks about same-sex marriage, prompted by recent comments made by President Obama. Pacquiao stated that “I am against gay marriage, but I am not condeming gays.”

Unlike Pacquiao, many stars have recently come out not only in support of Obama’s statements, but also for same-sex marriage. Most notably, rapper Jay-Z publicly stated this week that it’s an issue of “discrimination, plain and simple.”

Boxers, hip-hop stars and incumbent presidents: these are not the usual suspects in the conversation about same-sex equality. Have LGBT rights gone mainstream in America? What do you think?
