Lil Boosie Writes me a Letter

February 6, 2012 Front Page, Music 1 Comment

A few weeks ago I was sitting in my crib in L.A. listening to Lil Boosie. I thought, “Man, maybe I should write him.

Then I thought, “he probably wouldn’t write me back.”

So the next morning I was woke up to an e-mail that was sent to my phone from @BikoBaker. It was a letter from Lil Boosie to all his fans. That was my sign to write him.

So, I wrote him to tell him how I love his music and how I can relate and feel his pain in his songs. I told him the story of my two close friends getting killed by gun violence and how I got involved with the Campaign Against Violence / League of Young Voters Education Fund. I also told him about the movie I’m writing based on my two friends’ lives and asked him for advice on it.

After I sent the letter, I didn’t expect him to write back. Jeff, my friend who is the engineer at the studio I live in, told me he probably would because he has nothing else to do and that I had an interesting story.

When I got home last Thursday, Jeff asked me a question.
Do you have a guy friend on Death Row?

Lil Boosie Speaks From Prison

May 12, 2011 Front Page, Music No Comments

Torrence Hatch misses being Lil Boosie. He expresses his frustration below:

“Some days I’m maintaining, but I’m missing my family and the life I had out there. My first seven months I was in population, but since June I’ve been on 23-hour lockdown. They said they’re trying to protect me because of who I am. They got people get stabbed here, killed here. Pretty rough people here. A lot of rats here, snitches.

“[I'm here] ’cause of the songs I made, before I was indicted, about the police in Baton Rouge and what’s going on here. There’s a lot with our record label, that the system don’t like… They took my hard drive out of my house after I got arrested. I have albums for days in there. They still haven’t returned it. They’ve had it for damn near a year now. I need that music.”

Lots of people hate on Lil Boosie, as he is obviously far from perfect.  But few MCs today are able to capture the pain of urban millennials better than Boosie Boo! Check out the first “8 Bars” of his song “You Don’t Know My Struggle.”  Hopefully, he will you use his art to get his life back together when he gets out of jail.
We started off in the backyard,

I’m that boy,

Hate to lose,

if I lose, yo can get bruised,

I’m that hard.

Life starts from a bad memory.

Daddy loved drugs.

Can’t take this from him,

He loved girls.

Went from neighborhood jackas.

To neighborhood stackas

I-10 ridaz,

to I-10 traffickas.

Imagine us in that bottom on that PCP.

Walkin’ to school wit a tool,

who gon’ beef wit me.
