Perception vs. Reality in the Case of Trayvon Martin

March 27, 2012 Front Page No Comments

By now you may have heard the story of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. He was allegedly killed by a self-appointed neighborhood watchman named George Zimmerman, who claims to have shot and killed Trayvon out of self defense.

He was not arrested, although recent audio tapes revealed that Zimmerman was asked to not follow him, and that Trayvon pleaded for his life. It doesn’t sound like a case for self defense, but nonetheless, Zimmerman remains a free man. However the question weighing on the public’s mind, is why hasn’t Zimmerman been arrested and charged with at least manslaughter, based on the fact that Trayvon held no deadly weapon? Is imagined danger enough to justify a real murder?

[WATCH] “I Am Trayvon” Photoshoot in Milwaukee

The unfortunate death of Trayvon Martin has sparked conversation everywhere. Just recently, President Obama held a press conference where he made a statement about how Trayvon could’ve been his kid.

Now, an international hooded sweatshirt campaign has been created and has gone viral. Everyone from your pastor to LeBron James and his teammates are wearing “hoodies” in acknowledgement of the simple fact that Trayvon could’ve been any of us. To a lot of us, this story is, unfortunately, too common. It isn’t the first time a young, black man has been murdered by some type of authority figure. In this case, the so-called authority figure wasn’t official and he had no just cause. However, he still is free. Some have gone far enough to compare Trayvon’s incident to that of Emmett Till, the Chicago teen who was murdered down south in the 1955 for whistling at a white woman.

In Milwaukee, Vanida Stacker assembled a group young people as well as somewhat older members from the community to pose with signs displaying their support for Trayvon, while promoting the injustice that took place at the same time. Some of the different signs read, “Please don’t shoot, I’m not acting suspicious,” “neighborhood watch, not neighborhood kill,” or “maybe his ears were cold.”

#NewMusic: Pizzle x Rico Love x Kiara DuPree “Live Like A King”

December 23, 2011 Music No Comments

A bunch of the homies in Milwaukee have united to produce the featured song of the day. While I’ve heard talk about its production, I was a bit shocked to see it publicized as a completed project this morning. Pizzle released his Fame in Vain album a little earlier in the year and has gotten a lot of positive reviews for his part in the Green & Yellow collaboration w/ Prophetic. This song, however, is going to give him and his C.M.G. gang a lot of momentum, as it should. Rico Love is a very important piece to a lot of puzzles and now it’s coming together.

Rico is definitely a big draw, but I was actually very pleased to hear the talent of Kiara DuPree, one whom I’ve had the pleasure of working with in her earlier stages. It’s good to see she’s still at it and hopefully this isn’t the last that we’ll see of her. In fact, I wanna see a video for this!

Shouts out to the homies Derelle Rideout and Deonte Hayes for their instrumentation.

Dear Anne,
Wayne knows a lot about fans & stans because he sure does have a lot of them. Hell, he recently just pissed off some fans in Miami for jumping on the MAV’s bandwagon after they defeated the team they bet 2 Million on. So, you’re not alone.
