Political Quick Hits: March 2nd Edition

Here’s your weekly quick look at few developing stories in the political arena:

  • In 2012 news, Mitt Romney won both the Arizona and Michigan Primaries on Tuesday night. Rick Santorum finished second in both and actually split the number of delegates in Michigan with Mitt Romney 16 to 14, since it was so close. Mitt Romney also won the Wyoming caucuses on Wednesday night. Attention now shifts to Washington state, which is the next primary on March 3. The next big primary day is when 10 states have primaries on March 6, which is known as Super Tuesday. We could either have a clearer picture of the 2012 Republican race after Super Tuesday or we will see that this is could be a long race between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.

M.I.A.’s Super Bowl Middle Finger

February 7, 2012 Front Page, Music, Sports No Comments

A record-setting 111.3 million viewers tuned in to see the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots 21 to 17 in Super Bowl XLVI. However, the biggest story outside of the game seems to revolve around British rapper M.I.A (real name Maya Arulpragasam) who guest-starred in Madonna’s half-time performance and caused a bit of a stir when she gave the camera the middle finger.

If the FCC decides to fine someone for this flipping of the bird, M.I.A could be the one who winds up writing the check (according to reports). Sources say that the NFL had Madonna’s supporting acts sign a contract holding them responsible for any fines that could come from from the FCC if they did anything that warranted a fine during the performance. As you remember, Janet Jackson’s 2004 wardrobe malfunction with Justin Timberlake earned CBS a $550,000 fine, but that was eventually thrown out by a federal appeals court.

Top 10 NFL Stars of 2011

January 5, 2012 Front Page, Sports 1 Comment

The way that the 2011 NFL season started with the aftermath of the lockout and shakiness that clouded the league for most of the 2011 spring and summer, I must admit this was a very exciting year in the NFL.

Dan Marino’s passing record was broken. Two rookie quarterbacks made an immediate impact on their respective teams and locker rooms. A dream in Philly quickly became a Nightmare on Broad Street. Giants proved that that Jets or Rex won’t be the biggest name in NYC. 49ers showed us with a little change, the  gold rush could return to Bay Area and one Bronco showed us miracles happen anywhere with just a bit of faith. Now that the regular season is over, it’s time to win or go home as two teams try to punch a ticket to Indy for this year’s Super Bowl. Before we get to the big dance, let’s see my Top 10 stars in the NFL from 10-1.

Viks waive McNabb, next stop Chicago?

December 3, 2011 Front Page, Sports No Comments

Head Coach Leslie Frazier and the Minnesota Vikings waived former Eagles and Redskins 13-year quarterback Donovan McNabb yesterday.

With McNabb going 1-5 in a Vikings uniform and the emerging success of Christian Ponder, Frazier commented “this was the best decision for both parties” and that he believes McNabb can still be a starter in the NFL.
