Raiders Bring Trojan Great Back Home: Palmer to Oakland

Somewhere, Al Davis is smiling. Over the last two weeks, Raiders Nation has been on a emotional rollercoaster. After suffering the loss of their owner and NFL pioneer Al Davis, the Raiders marched into Houston and walked out with a last second victory thanks to a Michael Huff interception in the end zone. The very next week, the Raiders returned to Oakland to pay tribute to Davis in their first home game since his death against the Cleveland Browns. In the mix of celebrating the life of Al Davis, Jason Campbell, the Raiders starting quarterback, separated his shoulder on a scramble and will miss anywhere from 4-10 weeks.

Gun Violence and Hip-Hop in Oakland

Gun violence is no longer prone to a certain race, gender, or age in Oakland, California. On August 8, 2011, an afternoon at the store with his family turned into a nightmare for 3-year-old, Carlos Fernando Nava. A stray bullet fired during a drive-by shooting killed the young boy, who was pronounced dead at Children’s Hospital Oakland. The gunfire also struck two intended victims, who both survived the bullets dispersed on the 6400 block of International.

The death of this child, who had no connection to the young men who were shot, became the 67th homicide of Oakland this year, which has now increased to 83 homicides after the death of two people in arson case on September 11, 2011. Many cases that are currently being investigated are left unsolved.
