I don’t know what the hold up was at Def Jam, but Young Jeezy has just made the official public release of his long-awaited TM-103 album. Finally! Class had been in session for quite a while and no thug-motivated teacher.

Although the project consists of quite a few songs that we the cool kids have been hip to for quite a while, such as the collaborative track “I Do” featuring Jay Z and Andre 3000, a few gems like the Jill Scott record makes the wait well worth it. I mean, Jill Scott starts the Justice League-produced ballad with a rap seeming to be reflective of a mix between Wyclef and Mary J. Blige. I know what it feels like to be trapped, however, I feel as though Jeezy knows a lil bit more than I do. You be the judge.

(January 31, 2011) – Superstar and philanthropist Snoop Dogg has just announced the 9th annual Snoop Bowl will take place on Saturday, February 5 in Lancaster, Texas. This year, football legend Deion Sanders will host the annual event and compete against Snoop’s All Star Team.

Snoop Bowl will be filled with sports and fun and feature seven different games taking place throughout the day. The marquee game will pit Snoop Dogg’s All Stars against football great’s Deion Sanders’ TRUTH Select National Champion Football Team. Other teams who will be competing will be from Fort Worth, Brownsville, Texas, St. Louis, Arkansas, Oklahoma City and Memphis.

Throughout the years, Snoop Bowl has attracted countless celebrities participating, whether performing or coaching, and is a great event that gives back to the youth and their communities. Celebs who have contributed in the past include Pitbull, Flo-Rida, DJ Khaled, Will.I.Am and many more.

Snoop Dogg says, “I am so happy to have been doing this event for nine years straight and am excited to be coaching this year against Deion Sanders, a football great who I grew up watching. About 2 weeks ago, Milwaukee lost Lil Gucci whom was slain for God knows what, in New Orleans, a city that has dealt with it share of losses. A week ago I attended his home-going celebration in Milwaukee and as well everyone else, I was able to get some type of closure.I have to admit I was curious to know what New Orleans would be like after the rebirth of a city as well as the death of Gucci himself. The 37th Bayou Classics was the perfect setup.

After the Legendary Step-show and Battle of the Bands, we ended up on Canal and Bourbon street, amongst thousands, majority black, roaming in packs looking for kicks. A few shootings occurred on the strip this weekend leaving one dead but hopefully, the success of the overall event don’t overshadow the loss of this young mans life. In the back of my mind I wondered, “how big of a deal is that, how common is this in New Orleans? ” You have to be real bold and not give a damn to open fire in the middle of so many people and police.

The weekend winded down and I began to reflect and come to the conclusion that my experience (which was my first) is just one of the many but if you’re used to going just to hang out and take it for granted, you’ll miss the beauty in 3 generations of HBCU Alum and Under-Grad celebrating life and each other. As a musician, it’s humbling to see so many of our people dedicated to their craft and to see how appreciative the attendees were of their discipline. I was even more fond of the cheerleaders skill level than their physique

But can you believe that there are a lot of our people that don’t see us in a positive light like that so that lifestyle isn’t real to them. And that’s a shame. If you ask me, that’s the Promise Land M.L.K. was talking about.
