BIG MEECH’S MOM SUPPORTS “BLOWIN MONEY FAST”

July 27, 2010 Front Page 2 Comments

If you haven’t listened to Rick Ross’s new album, ‘Teflon Don’, you’re missing a greatly produced compilation of songs with features from Jay-Z to Raphael Saadiq. Out of all the songs on the 11-track project, there are two songs that stick out in my mind. One of them is ‘B.M.F.’ and the other is MC Hammer. The only reason the ‘MC Hammer’ record is even relevant in this conversation is because it sounds exactly like ‘B.M.F.’ and it might confuse you. Not to mention they’re back to back on the album

So, Jay-Z Isn’t A Mason?!

July 10, 2010 Music No Comments

Hov lends a verse for Rawse’s upcoming album. He clearly DOES read blogs, because he felt the need to clear up the mason rumors. And as usual, Rawse, as much as I dislike him, proves he knows how to make a hit.

My favorite rapper is Rick Ross and my favorite color is aqua blue!

This is the real Rick Ross!

This is the real Rick Ross!

So, this past weekend I hung out with Cashmere Agency’s Ryan Ford (former Executive Editor of the Source), the League’s Fahiym Ratcliffe and Tarik Ross. Boy ol’ boy did I learn a lot about hip-hop. I mean, you guys might not know this, but I didn’t exactly grow up in a hot bed for rap music.

So in the spirit of sharing, I’ve documented the top 5 things I learned while hanging out with these cool boys.

1. Hip hop can be dead to you but not dead

Yes, lots of people think hip-hop sucks right now. But according to these hip-hop aficionados, the spirit of hip-hop is still alive, even if it’s not present in mainstream music. Young people are still motivated by the same need to express themselves.

2. Asking people who their favorite rapper is is like asking them their favorite color

I learned this one from Ryan Ford. There are so many rappers out these days, it’ hard to chose, and it’s not really all that important because next week another one will show up.

3. The Boss is really just a different Ross

We actually ran into the original Rick Ross, a former Los Angeles based drug dealer who the rapper Rick Ross named himself after. Apparently, the rapper Rick Ross’ whole image is contrived and based off another person. How weird is that?

4. A culture is more true without corporate intent

This one speaks for itself. According to these guys, rap music was a lot better before money got involved.

5. Outkast could be the new Marvin Gaye

As in they make classic music. 20 years from now, your kids are going to be listening to Outkast in the very same way that we we listen to Marvin Gay. Good music never dies.

Rick Ross, You Assh*#e! Middle School Kids Overdose on “Triple C’s!”

December 10, 2009 Front Page 1 Comment

rick-ross-ringtone

So a couple of weeks back I was reading Byron Crawford’s blog and I found out that the name of Rick Ross’ group Triple C’s is actually the nickname for over the counter cough medicine. Apparently, Triple C’s stands for Coricidan Cough and Cold, and is similar to over the counter drug that killed legendary Southern rapper Pimp C. Some people have called it ghetto ecstasy.

Of course, Rick Ross and his group aren’t the only ones that have promoted the use of “triple c’s. Several Southern rappers, including Lil’ Wayne are known to be addicted to the stuff. But I guess Ross’ music must be extremely influential on the young minds of his hometown, because yesterday three middle schools kids from Miami overdosed on the cough medicine.

A 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were taken to Memorial Hospital Pembroke, and another 13-year-old boy was taken to Memorial Hospital West, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. A fourth student, a 14-year-old girl, was released to her parents, officials said. Their names were not released.

The students were first treated at the school’s clinic before rescuers arrived about 2 p.m.

They had each taken between eight and 12 cough supressant pills, though it was unclear if they gulped them down before school or during classes, said Mike Jachles, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman. (via here)

Yes, I know that you can’t only blame Ross for these kids’ stupidity, because their parents should have their butts whooopppeed for letting them get access to this nonsense!! But man, this sure does hit close to home. You can’t tell me that these young folks weren’t influenced by their hometown rapper. Maybe it’s about time that entertainers take responsibility for their actions and stop being so nonchalant about the power of their words.

Beef is Bad For Hip-Hop…ask Snoop Dogg!!!

March 17, 2009 Front Page 3 Comments

There was once a time when beef was good for hip-hop.  But today things have gotten out of hand. Sorry 50 Cent and Rick Ross, your current skirmish isn’t doing anything positive for the music industry.

That’s why we have to give Snoop credit for being a leader in the hip-hop world.   From his frequent calls for West Coast rappers to work together, to his work with youth in the Snoop Dogg Football League, Big Snoop Dogg takes action everyday to make sure the world is a better place.   Yeah he’s a rich and famous rapper, but he gets lots of love from us.
