According to the new census data realeased this Tuesday, America’s poverty rate rose 15.1 percent in 2010 the highest since 1993! YIKES!!! The government considers the income of $22,314 for a family of four living in poverty and $11,139 for a single person.
In 2009, 14.3 percent of American people lived in proverty. About 46.2 million Americans were living in poverty in 2010, which is 2.6 million more than the year before. OUCH!!!
America has been suffering from high unemployment for quite some time now with layoffs and fewer job opportunities. Many Americans are living on unemployment benefits. Employees receive these types of benefits when they lose their jobs through no fault of their own.
With America’s current unemployment rate at 9.1 percent, the time for the government to establish a plan to assist the country in getting back to work is now. Word is, Obama has his eye on a Georgia program called Georgia Works as a model for a national policy.

Biko is in D.C. today, and tonight President Obama addresses the nation with the one topic on EVERYONE’s mind: jobs.
Tonight, President Obama will address the nation and share his vision for how we get America back to work. And with the nation’s economy continuing to sputter, and with over 16 million unemployed workers, Obama is going to have to offer a bold vision that gets people excited. Because voters, including his strongest supporters like African Americans and young people, are starting to question if the President has what it takes to lead the country.
Oh, how quickly things change!
