Miranda Rights? Let’s Talk About It

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday to “refine” the 1966 ruling that became what we all know as our Miranda Rights, adding a clause specifying that criminal suspects who wish to exercise their right to remain silent have to – wait for it – tell them that’s what they’re doing.

Remember that kid growing up who  really sucked at the Quiet Game? He was all “how long are we going to go? Ok NOW!” Then 5 seconds later, “oh snap did you see that porsche, let’s steal it after this game! Ok NOW!” All I can say is, I hope dude learned his rights before the long arm of the law smacks him down.

Peep the Rousing Applause

I know more about Sonia Sotomayor than I do my next door neighbor. Since being announced as Prez Obama’s pick to replace retiring Justice David Souter of the U.S. Supreme Court, her life has been plastered all over the media. The last time I took note of a Supreme Court nominee was Clarence Thomas, whose hearings regarding his tryst with Anita Hill made him a household name.

It’s safe to say the reason why Sotomayor is getting so much coverage is because she is Latina and grew up poor. Period. End of Story.
